15.07.2019

The 10-year development plan of Bulgartransgaz networks for the period 2019–2028 was discussed today at a public discussion in the Commission on Energy and Water Supply Regulation.

The plan stipulates that the priority directions for the development of the Bulgartransgaz EAD infrastructure for the period 2019–2028 are the expansion of gas transportation infrastructure on the Bulgarian-Turkish and Bulgarian-Serbian borders. It also states that technical integrity, reliability, and effective basic and auxiliary gas infrastructure must be maintained. For this period, the modernization, restoration and expansion of gas transmission networks and facilities is provided. Further development of the relationship is planned. A capacity for storing natural gas is envisaged and expanded.

The ten-year plan provides that new connections with neighboring countries will be built and commissioned in the period 2019-2028. It is planned that Bulgaria will pass through key cross-border gas pipelines that will be connected to the existing Bulartransgaz gas transport system. Realizing the company's plans, the gas infrastructure of Bulgaria will connect the European natural gas market with the markets of the Caspian region, Central Asia, the Middle East, the basin of the Eastern Mediterranean and North Africa. As a result, natural gas supplies to the country and the region will be ensured, which will create real conditions for the diversification of sources and routes of natural gas supplies to and through Bulgaria, Bulgartransgaz explained.

In accordance with the plans for the development of gas infrastructure in the region, there are also plans to expand the existing Chiren gas storage facility, as well as modernize and rehabilitate the gas transport network of Bulgartransgaz EAD.
The implementation of all these projects is interdependent and is aimed at promoting the efficiency and development of a single pan-European gas network.

The priority in the investment activity of Bulgartransgaz EAD is the construction of new pipeline branches, which create conditions for accelerating gasification in the country with the corresponding economic, social, environmental and other benefits for the local population.

The expected result of the implementation of this plan is to improve the quality and scope of services offered by Bulgartransgaz dietary supplements related to the transportation and storage of natural gas and directly related to the transformation of Bulgaria into a significant regional gas unit, to create technical capabilities for the input and output of natural gas flows coming from various sources and new routes.

The plan will be adopted at a private meeting of the CEBR on August 8.
