Issuing Russian tourists a visa at the border

06.03.2013

The statistics of the past year 2012 for tourists visiting Bulgaria showed that in 2012 the country began to visit 30% more tourists than, for example, in 2011. This is almost two million people. Bulgaria attracts Russian tourists not only with its beautiful golden sand beaches and the beautiful Black Sea coast, but also with its ski slopes in the mountainous regions of the country. At the same time, the number of tourists from Russia is increasing. This was told in January by Russian media, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Simeon Dyankov.
This is due, according to Dyankov, primarily due to the fact that, according to the decision of the Bulgarian government in March last year, Russian tourists were allowed to come without a Bulgarian Schengen, but with a valid Schengen visa.
Indeed, studies have shown that approximately 40% of Russian tourists visiting Bulgaria already have an open Schengen visa.
We are currently discussing the proposal to obtain a visa to Bulgaria directly at the airport upon arrival. This would greatly simplify the visa issue and allow Russian tourists to visit Bulgaria more often. They want to implement the idea already in 2013.
Also, negotiations are underway with the Russian government on how, like Russia, to make it more open for Bulgarian citizens who have a great interest in Russia.
The issue of reducing the price of airline tickets and expanding the airlines that will carry out the flight has been put on the agenda. So far, only Aeroflot is engaged in this. If the list of airlines is replenished, then the prices will significantly decrease. Now the average ticket price is 600 euros, and for a family of three in Bulgaria, this significantly affects the budget. Many Bulgarians would love to visit Russia and its far corners, the minister notes.
