The coastal alley in Balchik, whose reconstruction has begun, will be fully prepared in the fall, the mayor of the city, Nikolai Angelov, said at a press conference. Repair is part of a partnership project with the Romanian municipality of Mangalia.
A total financial resource of about 1,500,000 euros is provided under the Interreg V-A Romania-Bulgaria Cross-Border Cooperation Program for 2014-2020.
A part of the alley with a total length of 1,700 meters has already been rebuilt in the area of the Dvoretsa architectural and park complex, the mayor added. Angelov commented that many vehicles began to park there, and access to vehicles will be stopped to ensure calm for tourists.
According to Angelov, construction work on the project was suspended during the season, and in the fall the railing will be replaced, asphalting will continue, a bicycle zone and others will be formed.
The project will modernize the central square of Mangalia, as well as the connection with the already restored coastal zone, said the mayor of the Romanian city, Christian Radu.
As part of the partnership, both municipalities will also prepare the Black Sea Menu tourism product with a Romanian-Bulgarian culinary guide with fish and seafood dishes. The festival “Sea, Sun and Culture” will be held in Mangalia this summer, and the Days of the Piano and Jazz Nights, which will attract young performers from both sides, in Balchik.
