Bulgaria closes border for refugees

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said that the country has closed the border for illegal migrants. This was announced on Saturday, September 19, the portal OFFNews.bg.

“Anyone who wants to cross the border in the manner prescribed by law will be skipped, the rest will not,” Borisov said. He noted that the situation of refugees is a tragedy and that no one can calmly look at the migration crisis that has swept Europe. However, according to him, the laws of the country must be respected.

According to the prime minister, the Bulgarian authorities are in contact with Turkish police officers who do not allow refugees to approach the border closer than 40 kilometers. Only cars and trucks are allowed.

On September 18, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced that the army would erect a fence on the border with Croatia in the coming days to prevent migrants from entering their territory.

In turn, Croatia on September 17 blocked the traffic on all roads leading to border crossings with Serbia by police. “Croatia has no opportunity to accept new migrants,” said Croatian Interior Minister Ranko Ostoich. He promised to completely close the border with Serbia if the influx of migrants from there reaches 8 thousand people a day.
